The Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems and Automation (LMS) is a research laboratory of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics at the University of Patras, Greece, oriented towards research and development in “cutting-edge” scientific and technological fields.

Its activities span advanced manufacturing, industrial robotics, human-robot collaboration, artificial intelligence, digital twins, extended reality, production planning and control, and manufacturing processes. LMS has participated in more than 210 research projects funded by the European Commission and European industrial partners, translating scientific advances into industrial applications, demonstrators and technology-transfer outcomes.

Role in GRAIL

LMS leads GRAIL’s Human Trust activities, developing human-behaviour and intent modelling, mixed-initiative autonomy, and multimodal human–robot interaction for safe, adaptive and explainable collaboration. It also contributes to continuous integration and RobOps, enabling reproducible testing and deployment of robotic and AI components. As technical coach for the automotive use case and host of the Greek GRAIL Testing Hub, LMS supports requirements, integration, validation and technology transfer.
