Technical University of Darmstadt (TU Darmstadt) is one of Germany’s leading technical universities, combining engineering, computer science, natural sciences, humanities and social sciences. Its research in artificial intelligence and robotics spans machine learning, perception, planning, control and human–robot interaction. Within the Department of Computer Science, the Interactive Robot Perception and Learning (PEARL) Lab develops structured robot-learning methods for robust, adaptive embodied intelligence, with particular expertise in mobile and bimanual manipulation, robot learning, task and motion planning, and learning for physical interaction.
Role in GRAIL
TU Darmstadt leads GRAIL’s Grounding Agent, which connects high-level plans to robot embodiment and real-world context through multimodal scene understanding, affordance reasoning, temporal grounding and physical feasibility assessment. It also develops the Integrated Situational Model that provides a structured, uncertainty-aware shared representation across GRAIL agents. TU Darmstadt contributes to planning, predictive world models, physical control and safety, including learning from demonstrations and reliable grounding for contact-rich robotic tasks.
