The European Commission has entrusted the technology centre Eurecat with leading the development of the first major European artificial intelligence model for robotics in the industry. The initiative will receive more than €40 million in funding and aims to help strengthen Europe’s industrial sovereignty.

GRAIL has taken an early step towards strengthening collaboration with other European AI initiatives by participating in workshop “Multimodal Foundation Models: From Research to Innovation”, organised by the ELLIOT project and held in Barcelona on the 1st of July 2026.

On the 22nd–23rd of June 2026, the GRAIL consortium gathered in Barcelona for its Kick-off Meeting, marking the formal launch of a major European initiative to develop sovereign and trustworthy Generative AI technologies for industrial robotics.
