Imperial College London’s Department of Computing is a leading centre for research and education in computer science. The Department conducts internationally recognised research across areas including artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, systems, software engineering, security, and theoretical computer science. Working closely with academic, industry and public-sector partners, its researchers address complex real-world challenges and translate cutting-edge research into practical impact. The Department is part of Imperial College London, a world-leading university renowned for excellence in science, engineering, medicine, and business.

Role in GRAIL

Imperial College London’s Department of Computing will contribute expertise in robot learning and robot manipulation. This will focus on generating datasets both with real-world data and simulated data, developing new algorithms to enable robots to learn from this data, and evaluating these on real-world robot arms and hands. Within this, the particular specialism will be developing algorithms that can learn new, dexterous tasks from a very small amount of real-world experience, as well as algorithms which enable lifelong learning with minimal human supervision.
